Neil,

Your comment on reverse cambered roads brought a funny thing to mind. My
friend Stan Wanlass has his studio in his home and obviously spends a lot of
time there. He is on a good sized lot, overlooking the Salt Lake valley and
his property is fronted by a large brick wall. The street is a major 2 lane
access street, the last one before climbing the mountainside to the east.
His wall is at the bottom of an S curve with a reverse camber. During
winter storms it was not that unusual for him to have three northbound cars
slide across the road and into his wall. The drivers or the police always
came up to the house to notify him of the damage. After rebuilding the wall
several times and expanding his first name relationship with several
insurance adjusters he found a better solution. Wonderful what four, large,
4 foot plus diameter boulders can do to solve your crash problems. The city
changed the camber of the turn but that just meant the drivers who came off
the road were just going at a higher speed. The fence hasn't been touched
for several years.

Wes
