Yes, aluminum rod growth is a reality. You do set your
engine up accordingly, right? Since RPM stretch does
occur, manufacturers suggest a conservative range of
cycles before replacement is necessary. It has been
some time ago that I used a set of aluminum rods so I
can't shed light on what that cycle range is. I'm sure
it wouldn't be difficult to find out for a particular
brand of rod. They used to be quite a bit less
expensive than their steel counterpart but took up way
too much space in the block.
