comments) Sorry for the poorly
worded post. Of course the Neon is (was) an American
car (Daimler-Benz not
involved then). When I was running SCCA the Neons
ran with imports, and was
closer in specs to Japanese than traditional USA
nameplates (Camaro, Corvette,
Mustang etc, etc,) Dodge offered factory money to
competitors, provided they
kept them stock. This program was discontinued, and
there are lots of cheap
Neons for sale around here. I meant no disrespect to
the nameplate or it's
origin. Further my suggestion of a spec racer with a
Chevy 4-banger is based on
it's relatively low stock power, but having graeat
potential for hot-rodding.
Likewise the Vega would challenge the mind for
aerodynamic improvement. These
cars can be had for "hundreds" of dollars, not
"thousands", and thus would
provide cheap entry-level racing. Being a closed
car, it would offer more
protection in a crash than an open car.
