Better to give it a decent burial.  There are plenty of switches available
including ones that ground the alternator when the circuit is killed.  I
replaced my switch with a Hella unit years ago and put it in the positive
cable to the starter, thus providing a way of shutting off current from the
battery to the rest of the car.
