Back when Mike Belfer was prepping my race car, I understood him to say tha=
t the TR transmission liked one oil weight and the overdrive liked another.=
=C2=A0 Therefore the oil he used was a compromise towards satisfying both. =
=C2=A0
This was back in the 1980s, and I cannot recall the brand (maybe KENDAL, bu=
t I'm not sure).
Anyone else remember anything like that? =C2=A0
Kas?

In the gearbox that Tim is referring to, I used a brand new re-lined=20
cone clutch in an OD unit that came from Bill Dentinger with Old Blue.=20
No clue what the history of the unit was, but the cone clutch stuck to=20
the brake ring in earnest for a several sessions. Operating pressure is=20
in the low 400's. I did replace the oil with Redline MT-90 during my=20
efforts to get the OD to release, and I am assuming the MT-90 helped. As=20
Tim said, there were several laps around the paddock that first weekend=20
with the car with the gearbox cover off and a mallet in hand, but it=20
wasn't until the second weekend out with the car that the cone clutch=20
released by itself.
It is worth noting I didn't like the shifting feel with the Redline and=20
went back to Brad Penn gear oil. That OD unit has been in the car for 20=20
race weekends now, and other than the need to bed in the cone clutch, it=20
has performed flawlessly. Those A-types have proven pretty robust for=20
me.
