I believe the MGBGT V8 was produced prior to the TR7 V8, in about 1973.  The 
car never really took off mainly because of the inner company competition. 
The story I've heard is it was going to very competitive performance and 
price wise to the E-type.  It was then shelved in favor for the TR7 V8 
project by the Board of Directors from British Leyland, which was mostly 
made up of Triumph executives at the time.
