Never log in through an email link.
Always use your bookmarks or type in the url.
Most of these log in sites are encrypted(especially for sensitive
information), so click on the lock symbol in the lower right forner of
internet explorer to make sure the certificate matches the website you are on
and that the dates are valid.
I have yet to see a phishing email link to an encrypted site. That lock
symbol is never there on a log in page although I have seen a pop up window
claiming the page is encrypted, but this is not legit and should be treated as
any other pop-up.
YMMV w/ netscape.
Some of these emails also pose as banking institutions as well.
