I busted a tranny at the autocross Sunday. I was planning to combine a few of
the spares I have into one good one. The first four speed that I opened up
was one that had lost first gear at the dragstrip a while back. Upon
inspection I found that the roll pin holding the shifter fork on had snapped
into three pieces and allowed the shifter rod to slide inside the fork. I
bought a pack of roll pins for $1.00 and put it all back together. I guess
it's my lucky day. I didn't even have to take the tranny apart. There is one
little hitch in my progress. I took the input shaft cover off to remove the
leaky seal. While I had the cover off a shaft with a D-shaped end slid out.
I pushed it back in but now there is something loose rattling around inside
the case. It looks like I'll have to pull the pan again and fix whatever fell
off. It's still much easier than assembling one good tranny out of five
broken ones.

Later,

Andy
