Although I have a 1600 (w/2L carbs) I can't believe it's any harder to
install 2L manifolds. Leave the carbs on and work around them. Yes it's a
bit more difficult but at least you won't have to put on 8 more nuts.
As I remember from stripping 2 2Ls it wasn't hard removing the carb nuts but
it is difficult installing them.
Take some aspirin before and after for your sore back :)
Wear some nitrile or vinyl gloves to keep your hands clean and in fairly
good shape.
Take your time too and clean all the threads on the studs or maybe cut them
again with a die to make installation much easier. Buy new lock washers too
and chase the nuts if you decide to reuse them. Oh, and use antiseize on the
studs.
