list,
just as a warning to those of you in ny, fl, mass, ct and nj--as an
attorney who has handled hundreds of traffic tickets and as a
lead-foot who has also received my fair share in some of the states
mentioned, the previously mentioned states do not operate in the same
fashion. once you enter a plea of guilty, your conviction is reported
to that states motor vehicle department immediately. if you were to
do what was suggested in new york, you would still get the points and
after 60-90 days your license would be suspended for failure to pay a
fine as the municipality would return the entire check and ask for the
correct amount rather than issue a refund check. if you were to be
stopped while suspended, you could then be charged with aggravated
unlicensed operation which is a traffic misdemeanor and carries a
minimum fine of $250.00 and does allow for a jail sentence (although
it's highly unlikely). imho you are better off plea bargaining your
tickets--you can usually get away with no points if your record is not
too bad and you avoid other potential problems down the road.
