1. Check starter again. Shorted armature will raise amp requirement. Also check
bushings again.
2. Check battery. Increased amp requirements(see above) could tax a marginal
battery.
3. Install a metal heat shield. There only needs to be a small clearance
between the shield and the starter. A competent sheet metal shop should be able
to make one. Use 18 or 16 gauge galvanised and then paint it. With tabs on it,
you could use both starter bolts themselves and motor mount bolts.
4. Use insulating 'Header wrap'. This will lower underhood heat and could also
result in a very slight HP increase (though many feel it is aesthetically
distressing).
