As with all mechanical problems, I like to start easy and work towards the
hard stuff.  First thing I would do is take off the gas cap.  Maybe the vent 
line is
plugged or maybe a non-vented smog style gas cap was installed by accident,
both these can be checked by removing the cap.  Will be ok to drive a short 
while
as long as you don't have a full tank, and put out the smoking lamp, ya 
tree.
