Cool! I never knew that... and I've been a MoPar nut for eons!

There's also the Slant-6 pattern... rare, only used in the "police package"
as fitted to taxi-cabs, not real cop-cars. :)  (most /6s used the A904)

Most likely, it's just 727 guts in a different casting... like the
Mitsubishi mini-truck/Dodge D-50. It had the guts and tailshaft of the
A904 in a housing made to mate to a Mitsu 4-banger.

The other option is if they actually did use an adaptor plate with 
an existing casting... are you saying that they did (and you have one)?
If so, that opens up even more possibilites if it's pattern is
interchangeable with another modern engine. They have 4-speed (overdrive)
automatics now that are based on the A904 design. (they might have one
based on the A727 too, not sure) Modern manuals mightbe an option
