Greetings from unseasonably warm Houston:
I am stuffing a BOP215 into a MKIII Spitfire and I am finally to the
point of purchasing the tranny. (As if I need more parts!)
Research I've done from the MGV8 Newsletter as well as guidance from
list members tells me that I should use a post-1988 T-5 (to get the
World Class T-5 -- a presumptuous name) from a 4.3L V6 (to get the right
number of splines on the input shaft) Chevy S-10. I have the bell
housing that the Chevy T-5 will bolt right onto, and I need the short
tailpiece on the S-10 to keep the shifter from being positioned between
the seat backs.
So I called 12 appropriate junk yards (auto jumbles) in Houston today
and found *one* S-10 T-5 post-1988 for the 4.3L V6. And they wanted
$550 USD for it -- delivered. Does that seem right? It was double what
I expected, but that's a common phenomena.
Also, am I being too selective? As far as I know, only the S-10 the
tranny for the 4.3L V6 will work (has the right number of input shaft
splines).
Is this tranny in something other than just the S-10? How about some
GMC thing, or maybe the little Blazer?
Finally, if someone knows where I can buy one for $250, I could probably
get it shipped here for $250.
Thanks.
