MMMM .... have you tried spraying the linkage connections with WD40???
The Land Rover had a duel idle. About 400 RPM if I got off the accelerator
quickly (return springs streached & allowed to snap shut quickly}.  If I eased
off the throttle, the idle would be about 1200RPM.  I discovered that the
bell crank joints & bell crank joints were dry and dirty. I drowned them in
WD40 to wash away the dirt.  That did the trick for me.  I followed it up the
next day with 3-1 oil.
