Well, http://mysite.freeserve.com/Caterham_DIY/page4.html shows a method
for using two bathroom scales per tire.  

However, http://www.autoracingtrader.com/racing_equipment.htm lists some
kind of mechanical scales for sale for $269, which seems too good to be
true but is certainly interesting.
