Tire size for a Miata running 14" wheels

I have a friend who is going to CSP and is going to
run 14x6" wheels on his 96 Miata because he got them
cheap. I used to run 225's on my 6" wheels on my Neon.
Can he run 225 BFG's or should he stick with the
205/55/14? He is new to R tires having run on Streets
all last year. Any suggestions are greatly
appreciated.
