Thanks for everyone's reply. This list is a great
source of knowlege and/or opinions on TR6 mechanicals,
and much more.  I will keep attacking the darn seal. 
  Actually, I sold my TR6 some time ago, and recently
bought a TVR Vixen 2500 which is largely TR6 running
gear.  Unfortunately, the differential is boxed in by
various frame tubes. My claw-type seal puller is too
big to fit in there and then lever out the seal
without first cutting a few inches off the handle.  I
think that's my next step since it isn't too
expensive.  I have a dim memory of changing the seal
on a TR3 or a TR6 previously and it also ended up a
mangled mess when I was done.  I don't know if it is
tighter in there in front of the diff on a TR6.
