John, I had the exact same problem last year. I jacked the car up, one side at a time , put the car in gear and rotated the tire by hand forward and then backward , with some muscle I could reproduce the clunk by hand. It was coming from the dif not the mounts or rear shafts. I replaced my dif and it's been fine since. I did however inspect everything before I bought the new dif and there were no cracks or problems other than the dif. Good luck, Nick Gemas  |
