Thanks to all for their suggestions regarding flaring kits - I now have a
few avenues to investigate before shelling out big money.
A few points I'd like to clarify to those who've questioned my need for this
tool:
Firstly, most of the specialised pipe sets I've used in the past have been
quite dreadful in terms of pipe length. I am thinking in particular of the
set I fitted to a friends Austin A35 where every pipe was far longer than it
needed to be. This set was by Automec and is one of the reasons why I will
no longer use their sets (though their flaring tool is one I'll
investigate). The other reason for not using their sets is the fact they are
made of shiny copper rather than one of the the much more appropriate
looking Copper-Nickel alloys. There are other debateable points about the
relative safety of copper pipes but that's another thread!
Secondly, I have cars for which no commercially produced brake pipe sets are
produced, for example the 1959 Heralds where the rearmost pipes are routed
differently to those on all later Heralds. Though the sets produced by John
Kipping were excellent, they were not available with this early arrangement.
Finally, take a look at my signature file - as many of my cars are projects
this is hardly going to be a tool which spends years on the shelf between
uses,
        Cheers,
                Bill.
