- My 17 year old son needs to take his NJ driving test. Problem is...the NJDMV will not allow the test to be taken in our Dodge Ram Van 1500 because the emergency brake is not accessible to the tester.

- Why not rent a car for the test or see if one of the local driving schools can provide him with a lesson before the test and then have him use the car for the test. My parents used the 2nd option wit

- Why not teach him to drive the TR? Does he know how to drive a standard? If driving a manual shift doesn't bother him as far as too much to worry about during the test, go for it. Where I might draw

- Sheez, I dunno, how much do you love the kid? My older brother totaled our family's TR3B in 1971. I was fifteen, so I didn't have the option of taking my driver's test in that poor car. Just an anecd

- Most modern automobiles seem to have the same foot pedal next to the driver's door for the emergency brake. How can that be used as a limitation? The car I took my test in (in 1972) had the same peda

- I agree that this limitation seems a little strange, considering the last four or five (not counting LBC) car's I've had all had the foot pedal on the left for an emergency brake. Did you hear about

- Perhaps it's not "emergency brake" but rather the helper brake? When I took my driving lessons, the instructor had his own foot brake. It clipped on in a few places and basically just worked my pedal

- If I remember correctly, the hand brake access requirement is for cars with a console. My daughter took her NJ driving test in a '87 Sable with front bench seat. But that was a bit ago and memory may
