My wife and I were out for a drive in her TR250 last night when it started making strange noises. Sort of a gravely noise. It doesn't seem to be coming from the engine. My gut feeling is that it is f

So the noise changes with car speed, but not engine speed, right ? IMO, yes. When you take it apart, also pay attention to how tight the bearing cups are in the flanges. If you can move them with yo

Yes. Any movement is too much. Many times a bad U-joint cannot be diagnosed with it still non the car but once removed it becomes apparent. It is a common U-joint and should be available from any car

Just what do the washers do since the joint is floating at all times? At least it better be. Dave == This list supported in part by The Vintage Triumph Register == http://www.vtr.org

On mine, there was a thin washer between the packing and the screw-on cap. I presume it's function is much like the washer in a sink drain slip fitting, to reduce the friction between the nut and th

Just as a observation on the driveshaft removal. The driveshaft is definitely removable from under the car with out affecting the differential or trany cover. I have done this several times. It is a

Perhaps it's the combilation of the '73 frame and the single pipe exhaust but I couldn't even get a wrench on the output flange. Before I replaced my frame (it is a 71 TR6 with a 73 frame) I pulled t

I don't see how since all the access is to the rear of the output flange which is in the same location in either case. When you pulled the shaft did you remove the rear mount first? Dave == This list
