I have a new coil that says no external resistor is to be used so I removed the ballast resistor. I get a spark off the lead out of the coil (to the distributor) when I open the points by hand or rot

I'm not sure exactly what this part of the circuit looks like on a GT 6, but I'll bet it's got something to do with the contact on the starter solenoid that normally shorts out the ballast resistor

You should have a second wire that feeds V+ to the coil when the key is in the 'start' position. A different wire fed the coil via the ballast resistor when you released the key to the normal 'on' po
