Vince, I believe the chassis was painted the original body color at the factory. I bought my 68 Spitfire in 1969. The chassis is white, the body color. Many owners use black in restorations as it is

Been there, done that :-( The DPO added a set of three gauges in the driver's glovebox of my Spitfire. The copper line from the oil gauge ran to a T-fitting on the engine, with no support between the
