- my gm alt puts about 15 volts and seems to charge fine. the battery goes dead over night. if I unhook the battery it holds the charge. a friend of mine said the alt was bad? could this be true? Chris

- There are only two circuits in your Tiger: assuming it is correctly wired, dismiss everything that is switched OFF by the ignition switch, such as the fuel pump and brake lights. Jim

- I certainly could be the alternator. They use an array of solid state diodes/rectifiers to convert the AC the generator produces to DC. If one of the diodes fails, it will allow current to flow thro

- If the battery is discharging through the alt, the alt usually gets hot, that is warm to the touch. Do you have a separate voltage regulator for the alt, if so that would be my first guess. Ron Fras

- Hi Chris, You've got a current leak. Try disconnecting the alternator overnight and see if that helps. If not, disconnect one battery terminal and put a multimeter (set to milliamps) between that bat

- Yet another issue. My battery doesn't seem to be getting a charge. I have a dash ammeter that shows no action. There's a single wire from the alternator to the ammeter, then another from the ammeter

- A shorted amp meter (when correctly installed IN LINE or IN SERIES with a current carrying conductor) will not prevent the battery from charging. An OPEN ammeter would. An easy way to see if your cha

- What kind of alternator are you using? If it's an original Capri V-6 alt, I very much doubt that it was an internal-regulator type. This means that you will need to find its matching regulator (a bo
