Think carefully....rear end subject to a "hard" force recently, such as a pothole or anything like this? This happened to me a long time ago...turned out to be what my mechanic called a spider gear

ya know ya can tell wich axle is broken in most cases without pulling both wheels. rock the wheel back and forth in a rotational dircetion. listen for the drive line to load and unload . even with a
