Would using the thick engine back plate from a later car work? The 948's have a thinner pressed steel plate, while the later cars have a cast iron plate. This would give you about 1/4" more clearance

Be careful with stainless fasteners in non-stainless holes, so to speak. Stainless can gall badly, and effectively seize in holes pretty easily, and it's so hard that it's almost impossible to drill

It's easier, IMHO, to remove the engine and gear box separately. Just undo the bolts that hold the tranny to the engine, and wiggle, and it'll come loose. Make sure to support the front of the tranny

I set up my suspension with 3/8" of spacer under the shock, and negative camber offset bushes in the upper trunnion ( at the end of the shock arm). I have poly bushes, non offset, in the lower a-arm.
