I just purchased a later model Distributor from a 1500 with the integral ignition module on the side to use on my 1970 1300 Spitfire. I am wiring the whole car up myself so that isn t a problem. The

Barry, I believe that the current ballast resistor on the car should be OK in lieu of the wire as on the later ones like mine. You should not need to touch anything there. Sounds like you want to use

I don't know which wiring diascratches you are looking at, but the MkIV/1500 schematics show either a resistor wire or a resistor, not both. You should be able to measure the primary resistance of th

The resistor he is referring to is wired across the distributor only. NOT the ballast for the coil. If you look at late model schematics, you'll see a resistor right next to the distributor with both

I believe it is there to properly bias the electronics in the unit that is attached to the side of the Dizzy. In other words it is absolutely necessary! Joe /// spitfires@autox.team.net mailing list

Thanks, Paul. I guess I don't have late enough schematics; none of mine show that resistor. .... Oops. Just looked and my [factory] book is MkIV, not MkIV/1500. So, picking Haynes Brains, I see the "

The 9.5 ohm value is useful, but are there two at 9.5 each? One 9.5 with a center (or other fraction) tap? Three terminals means two resistors, in one form or another (or some solid-state active dev

The actual device looks like a "bog standard" power resistor with a plate for mounting on the chassis. Just two terminals. Unless of course it is using ground through the casing but does not look the
