There are no points to ware out. It doesn't use a condensor. It gives more spark power from the same coil. The car will start easier. When driving you will notice the difference. It is worth the diff

When I had a crane xr700 the tach worked fine. When I switched to the xrr3000 it made the tach work like you said. In the manual they talk about adding a tach relay to corect this problem on some car
