The best way to protect this area is to stop using dot 3 or 4 fluid and switch to dot 5 silicone fluid. There is not a paint on the market that dot 3 or 4 can withstand. Dot 5 on the other hand does

Craig, Maybe my battery is different then yours but that battery acid (sulphuric acid) hurts like hell when I get it on my hands!!! Patrick Bowen acids are not as caustic to some surfaces as others.
