I taped the letters and just spray painted the whole emblem. For the area that the tape didn't protect I used a little rubbing compound. They came out looking like new. ...Art

The pinging going up hills can also spell worn bearings. You might want to consider pulling the oil pan and checking rod bearings. A ruined crankshaft is a lot more expensive than a set of bearings.
