The switch is sealed, but is fairly easy to replace. There is no pressure in the brake system when the pedal is released. Brake fluid will not pour out when you remove the old switch. At least that

Your problem is burned contacts in the switch. The burned condition causes a high resistance and when current is drawn by the light bulbs, all of the voltage is dropped across the switch. This is why
