- Keith, I have found that low RPM is richer and that colors the ring lands...generally exactly as you describe. When the RPM is up the mixture keeps the pistons cleaner.....it could be a little oil? I

- Keith for what its worth I have only seen pistons that DONT have discoloration on the 2nd ring land, unless something catastrophic has happened Only really dabbled with relatively small bores though
