Keith, I have found that low RPM is richer and that colors the ring
lands...generally exactly as you describe. When the RPM is up the mixture
keeps the pistons cleaner.....it could be a little oil? I think that your
assumtion is correct. The rings are sealing. Are the rings gapless?
