I chopped a hole in one of mine with a hatchet and then pushed on the lever that the cable pull is supposed to yank on with the hatchet's handle. have to chop the hole in the right place for this met

Early or late? On the early cars, the latch is held centered by the cable, and if it the cable is disconnected or broken, the locking lever spring biases to an unlocked position. I know this because
