I don't know if I would call it original, but I've found it to give the best appearance. Krylon Metallic Enamel, Dull Aluminum, p/no. 1403. Not too shiny, or overbearing.

I don't think I would like the look with wire wheels, although some veteran cars of the 20s and such did that with spoke wheels. (like, wooden wheels with about ten spokes. I came very close to paint
