I just saw a book with a picture of a late series II XJ6 from the US and it had rubber bumpers on it. Everywhere else I have seen in the world including Australia the series II had chrome bumpers up

All of the Series II XJ6's in the US are rubber bumper style. The US went grossly overboard on Pseudo-safety in the 70's largely because of Ralph Nadar's rantings and his book "Unsafe at Any Speed".
