I just bought a Craftsman Torque wrench to use for re-tourquing my head bolts (since this is a brand new-rebuilt engine) and the instructions say to always loosten a bolt fully before you re-tourque

Yes, back the bolt out, evenly spread on "anti-seize" compound, insert finger tight, and then torque. Incidentally, the head bolt nuts are very special and made for BMC cars, DO NOT USE SUBSTITUTES!

This doesn't sound right to me. Assuming the extension is at right angles to the handle along the axis of the nut or bolt being torqued, I cannot see what it would have to do with anything. I have ne
