I've been running one in my Cooper 'S' Historic racer since 1994. No problems at all, very progressive engagement, no noises. It's lost a bit of tension since it was first installed and will be tight

What you say is true, there are no springs or clutch plates; but there are (according to the manual) a group of 5 steel spring washers located at the centre of the diff, pretensioning the output gear

Sprite halfshafts are a bit weak anyway. And yes I broke one not long after fitting the new diff three years ago - but that is with a blown A-Series. At least I could still drive home on the other on

A bit weak! I broke three in my old Sprite in the seventies, and that was with a stock engine and diff! The sad part is with the stock diff you can't limp home.
