Best way to tell is to log addition of oil, with date and mileage. That would be closest to what the engine was designed for. Use 30 wt. unless you are driving in really cold weather (doubtful), the

Oil smoke tends to be bluish-white. Black is generally too-rich fuel mixture. Pure white is most likely coolant. They each have distinctive smells. -- Phil Ethier West Side Saint Paul Minnesota USA 1
