John Kelly, What do you mean by "look for what happens to the Miata in 2003"? I can think of a few things you could mean: 1) There is a rules change/reclass already scheduled for the existing model t
I think John K. is referring to a proposal to move Miatas from DP to EP. I don't know anything about any changes to their Stock or SP classifications. But as I said yesterday, if Mazda does introduce

Why not the new rotary? 250-275 hp and probably lighter than the 170 hp piston engine. That would put the Miata in Corvette (maybe even Z06) territory. I just doesn't make sense that Mazda is introdu

I think that Mazda is afraid to put the rotary in any other car before the RX-8 is established. After all, what is the real appeal of the RX-8, other than being the only rotary powered car on the US
I wonder why toyota didn't stuff the 180hp Celica GTS motor in the MRspyder...maybe they are just wait with the motor up their sleeve to see what else comes out ~Nanda

The RX-8 is a cool car, but it has 4 doors and more weight than the Miata. Since the primary benefit of a rotary engine is superior power to weight ratio, it belongs in a light, nimble car. With a ro

While that's a no-brainer for you and me, Mazda really wants the RX-8 to succeed. I think they are relying in part on the mystique of the RX-7 to sell it. Now if they have two $30,000 cars, once of w
the rotary has another advantage in that it is very compact, allowing you to position the motor for a lower center of gravity and better weight distribution. there was talk of having driver control o
I thought that was a feature which was actually on the prototype RX-8 but obviously not put into production. I doubt a feature like that would ever be released on a production vehicle as it would be

I've read numerous interviews with the Miata team and there is always this question about a rotary Miata. They don't want to do it, and they are never going to do it. It doesn't matter how cool we a
IIRC, Toyota's "official" excuse on keeping the 2ZZ-GE (Celica GTS motor) out of the MR2 Spyder is that it would raise insurance costs of the car. Sounds pretty lame to me... What I'd be concerned ab
There is an automatic system that does this; one version is known as 'Corner Brake Control' at BMW. It prevents understeer when braking during moderate cornering. squid.
Sure, and those stability control systems work great for their intended purpose but there's no interaction between the driver and the system (maybe you can turn it on and off but that's it). You step
Maybe someone wishes another aspect to this whole DP/EP/Miata/Honda/Lotus debate. Believe it or not I have one to share. 8-) Long ago the EP class was split from the DP class. The EP class was for re
Mercedes-Benz has it, too, known as BAS/ESP (Brake Assist System/Electronic Stability Program) I think it's the ESP part that assists during corners. CHD
