So, I've got 14x5.5 wheels, and I'm considering the various Kumhos that will fit them. I understand that a smaller diameter tire is advantageous in terms of gearing, and I suspect a wider tire is goo

I wouldn't get 225's; if you really want wider tread, it may be worth biting the bullet and getting wider wheels. I replaced the 185's on my Prelude (5.5" wide wheels) with 205's and due to the amoun

r-compound tires dont age well. age will harden them (6 months or more) and they have a limited number of heat cycles of stickiness even if there is rubber left. so used ones should be pretty cheap-

It's true that R tires age rapidly. However, don't you think that old, hard, crappy R tires usually still outperform good, fresh street tires? I think they do, but that is just based on the _feel_ of

not in my case. once my tires hit about 100 runs, i have MUCH less traction than with my 400 treadwear other tires. borden recorded 1.47 G's on good hooisers, 1.2 G's on RE71 street tires and 1.1 G'

That could explain why I'm not getting any traction. . . My sucky G-Forces are over a year old. My light car with big tires heat cycles them to death before the rubber scrapes off. I'm glad I asked!

they eventually lose it too. but it takes a lot longer- the rubber is formulated to have more consistent life over a longer time. its harder to start with, and presumably it hardens less (much less)

I must have been fooled by the stiff sidewalls. Even though the rubber was heat cycled to death, the stiff sidewalls continue to make the tires respond quickly even though they don't grip as well as

i bet thats the cause of the power oversteer you mention. once my tires go, even a little gas sends me sideways. -james c OSP - Only Stupid People

Unfortunately, for now I'll keep my G-Force R1 "street" tires on until I cord them. They're no worse than street tires & I can't get R tires in my sizes. That is to say, the only R tires in my sizes
