I think it has a lot more to do with very small 900-1500 lb cars being very potent autocross cars, and you make more people happy by excluding that very small number of cars than you do by inclluding

This seems odd to me. With all that IS allowed in SM/SM2, and the sheer number of strut braces that are offered with triangulation to the firewall, I would think it would be allowed. I can only guess
