Eastbound on I-70, coming from Salina and points west: Get on I-470 heading south (the only way it goes at that point). Get off at Exit 5, onto US-75 south (take the right side of the Y at the exit)

That's how I'd do it now. Might be a couple more miles -- but you get an open highway at 70 mph instead of a heavily-trafficked city street at (sometimes) 50 mph. Exit the Turnpike at the South Topek
