Jim--It's possible to mount a magnetic based dial indicator on the timing cover, if you have enough 'arms' to make the turns. However, before going to this, just lever the crank pulley back and forth

I would like to measure my end float too, but I'm not sure what I need. Are the cheapo dial indicators from harbor freight adequate -- measure to .001" ? Are they all magnetic base? It's not clear fr
