List,

I've got about 6000 miles on the TR6 since getting it back on the road in
2003 after a full restoration. I reused my original fuel tank after cleaning
and flushing it quite well (or so I thought) back in 2002. I fitted a larger
fuel filter than the stock filter to allow for better fuel flow and more
filtration to the triple carb setup.

Well.....someone up above must have been watching over my wife and I during
a nice 70 mile drive this past Sunday.....when we pulled into our driveway
after the drive, the motor simply sputtered to a stop in front of the garage.
On Monday I traced a no fuel flow condition to a clogged outlet pipe from the
fuel tank. Some interesting particles came flushing out but none of them
really big enough by themselves to cause a complete blockage in the pipe -
they
all would have been trapped by the filter had fuel been able to flow
properly. I cut the filter (metal can) in half. The normally orange/yellow
filter
medium was just covered with a fine brown slurry which I can only guess was
"residue stuff" that I hadn't properly flushed out in 2002. The dirt must
have begun to clog the filter within a few 100 miles back in 2003 and just got
worse over time gradually causing a backup into the outlet pipe.

Morale of the story - if you do any work in the fuel system i.e., tank or
lines, change the fuel filter after a few hundred miles - it's only a few
dollars and you may not be as lucky as I was to have your moment of motor
failure
in your driveway:)
