it seems that Official Logbooks may have
actually started in about April 72 from what I am seeing.

The first SCCA logbooks for cars were actually issued in the fall of 1971.
In doing a lot of documentation for SVRA I have seen several ISSURD in
November or December of that year. I don't remember if they actually had any
race
activity dates until 1972, which was the first official year for SCCA books.

Documenting history before 1972 can usually be accomplished through owner
chain verification and third party accounts along with period race results. It
is becoming easier to track down early owners using internet resources, but
unfortunately many of these folks are now found DEAD.
