Here's one that should start a lot of discussion.....

OK - try a GM 3.1 or 3.4 V-6 with 5 speed trans out of a Camaro etc. Narrow  
60 deg. engine, no carbs to stick up, and the block is almost exactly the same 
 length as an MGB block.
And you can get as much or as little power as you wish.
I've seen an early TVR with one of these as well as a Sprite. Why not a  
Lotus?
