quite honestly we all believe we need more horse power in our respective
cars and must go faster. but the reality of it all is that the cars from
the era we are driving are pretty interesting to drive! remembering
numerous conversations with my father's friends identifying the better
drivers of the 50's and 60's inspires me to pen this note!
often as a child i heard mention of drivers who had become "famous".
motorcycle racers, road racers, endurance racers and a lot of "street
racers" ended up being pretty darn good sports car racers. and most
started out driving something "small" and not very "powerfull". the
education a somewhat slower car (or motorcycle) provides is an incredibly
valuable driving experience! from learning a course to what i believe the
most difficult thing to learn wich is keeping your momentum and not
scrubbing off too much speed in a corner. if a person chooses to have a
dual purpose car so be it! that car can become a set of "training wheels"
that can give some incredible seat time wich can only lead to an improved
understanding of what's going on out there on course. but! evry driver
knows eventually you will want to go faster! trust me, i'm the car evryone
gets to pass and i'm thrashing the living daylights out of my car, and yet
compared in my run group i'm slow. yet i enjoy my car, and am still
learning how to optimise that car's abilities! yup! i'd love to go
faster! but you need to start somewhere. if a dual purpose car is what
you envision for your future, do not be discouraged! remember the old days
of sports car racing! drive to the track, remove the hub caps, stick on
the numbers and "have at it". just do not compromise safety and, go out
and have fun while you learn your car's limits.
