Don: I was using aviation gas in my Bristol engine with 10.8:1 until I read
someplace that although it had a high octane rating, it was short on energy
content. I since found that the Bristol runs OK on premium gas. Then I took a
look at http://www.osbornauto.com/race2avgas.htm Racing Gasoline Versus
Aviation Gasoline by Tim Wusz, 76 Products Co. and
http://www.faqs.org/faqs/autos/gasoline-faq/part3/. I think the former has an
ax to grind. My interpetation is that avgas is good if you need the octane
but it may be necessary to richen the mixture. But you can draw your own
conclusions. The guys in England & New Zealand seem to use avgas exclusively
as far as I can tell.
Regards, Bill Watkins
